Foreign investors were net sellers of PKR 644m (USD 2.3m); local investors were net buyers of PKR 644m. The internals read as a marginal new low on even breadth. Breadth was 223 to 224, volume was close to even at 183m advancing against 197m declining, 21 sectors rose and the engines moved by small amounts, but PTC's 9.1% fall on 13m was the second-largest turnover on the board. The largest prints were at the fringe - LSEFSLR's 32m, WAVESAPP's 22m - with the refinery names, which led the swings of the past month, down only 0.58%. Foreign investors were net sellers of PKR 644m, the largest foreign net sell since 11 September's PKR 1.79bn, after Monday's marginal PKR 12m net buy - a two-day net of PKR 633m sold, with locals the net buyers today.

Outlook

  • •The retreat has made a second straight new low: Tuesday's 164,776 is 348 points under Monday's, 3,933 points under the 10% line for a ninth straight session, 12.10% below the record and 3.65% under the 24 July low for a fourteenth straight session, with the index 1.38% lower on the week so far.
  • •The new low came on even breadth and a balanced tape - 223 advancers to 224 decliners, 183m up against 197m down, 21 of 33 sectors higher - with PTC the sharpest fall among the highest-turnover names: it fell 9.1% on 13m, about eight times Monday's volume and after two earlier losses, while the refinery sector eased 0.58% and Power Generation and Distribution 1.22%.
  • •The fringe is working through its own extremes on large prints: LSEFSLR's rights line has lost 53% from its Rs 2.19 reference price in two sessions on 32m and 21m, while UCAPM posted a fourth straight gain of more than 12% and CSIL and UNITY rose 14.1% and 13% - six of the ten most active names priced under Rs 10, with PIBTL, PTC, PIAHCLA and SGPL the higher-priced exceptions.

What to watch

  • •Whether PTC's 9.1% fall on 13m is followed by more selling or stabilises - it fell 2.1% and 2.8% on the previous two sessions, taking the stock from Rs 60.09 on 8 October to Rs 57.18 before Tuesday's fall to Rs 51.99
  • •Whether the new low of 164,776 holds - it is 0.66% under the 5 October low, 1.90% under the 14 September low and 3,933 points under the 10% line, with the 24 July low of 171,021 now 3.79% overhead after fourteen sessions beneath it
  • •Whether foreign selling continues - Tuesday's PKR 644m net sell was the largest since 11 September and took the week's foreign ledger to roughly PKR 633m sold in two sessions
  • •USD/PKR, SBP rate signals and the global crude tape
